“Matt Hastings is the most invested, committed, and creative physical therapist I have ever worked with. He takes the time to really get to know you and caters his therapy to your personality and aspirations.
I am a middle-aged athlete and skier and he devised fantastic ways for me to work my ankle and develop the strength to enhance my activities. He would invent completely new exercises to simulate the demands of skiing while focusing on rehabbing my ankle, often to the amusement of other patients in the practice. These exercises enhanced my strength, agility, balance, and speed, allowing me to get back to an active lifestyle strongly and safely.
Under Matt’s care, I never missed a ski season; despite 4 ankle surgeries in 4 years! I hit the slopes feeling strong, confident, and ready. He is also a psychological wizard - he knew just how to motivate me and keep me optimistic even on the lowest days. I have worked with a lot of physical therapists but Matt is simply the best. I don’t want to need a PT again but if I do, I will go to Matt.”

“After several years of pain and stiffness resulting from cartilage loss in my hip, I finally agreed to hip resurfacing surgery.
I started working with Matt on a pre-surgical basis to address the secondary issues that the hip condition had caused in my back and gait. Post-surgery, in late April, we began working to regain the flexibility and balance lost over time as the hip condition had progressed.
By mid-summer, with the incision fully healed, I was walking the golf course and working on strengthening exercises. By the fall, I was back on the squash court, and by Christmas, I was back on the slopes at Beaver Creek, a little slow and cautious at first, but skiing nevertheless.
Matt’s techniques included a combination of mobility, strengthening, and manual techniques, along with a range of exercises in the office as well as “homework” to supplement the program. In the four years since the surgery, I have returned to full activities and ski stronger and longer each season than the year before.”

“I started working with Matt a few months after my ACL surgery recovery. I came out of surgery with a dead quad that was incredibly frustrating. As an athlete I expected my road to recovery to be instantaneous and follow the demands of my body. Needless to say, that’s not how it started out.
Matt and I worked together twice a week slowly building up my strength, balance, and mostly confidence in my affected knee. We first did basic strength work with bands and body weight and slowly progressed with more weights and lateral movement. One big challenge I had was jumping and relearning the confidence in my body that I wouldn’t fall. Slowly but surely Matt got me through my fear of jumps.
I planned my year with an increasing amount of goals to get my back to fitness. My goals were: 5k in March, 10k in June, a half marathon in Oct, a full Marathon in November then wrapping the year up with hiking Kilimanjaro.
Matt helped me work through each stage of progression. It was humbling to start out on a treadmill with frequent walk breaks because I was out of shape. After each event, Matt would put together the next set of progressive strength training and programming. He was great at fine-tuning the gym workouts with my running schedule. He challenged me when I needed it, and let me rest a little when I was having a tough day. This is how he kept me motivated for the next goal.
He even went out of his way to help me learn my pack and had me treadmill training with the pack I would use for Mt Kilimanjaro. I remember the tips he gave me while hiking up Kili.
I was in the best shape of my life during this year. Matt helped me learn that strength work is truly the foundation of all sports. The strength work we did improved my running speed more than speedwork ever did. It was an amazing lesson!
Nearly 3 years later I swear my affected knee is still more strong than my left. I’m even back to sports like snowboarding that I never thought I’d want to do. It was truly fun to work with Matt for 18 months and wish I had the same level of fitness today!
